VIEW Glass

Dynamic Tinting Insulated Glass Units

View Dynamic Glass tints electronically in response to the outside world, preserving your view and keeping you cool. Now your windows are intelligent, alive, and under your control.

Overview

Traditional architectural glazing systems are a compromise between maximizing user experience and maximizing energy efficiency. View Glass changes that: In its tinted state, it blocks solar heat reducing the need for cooling. At the same time, it controls glare without obstructing the view. In its clear state, View Glass transmits more solar heat than typical Low-E glass reducing the need for heating.

Experience

Sitting near a window on a warm sunny day can be an uncomfortable experience. Glare makes it difficult to perform tasks or view a computer screen. Harmful UV radiation damages furniture and possessions over time. These conditions can negatively impact occupant productivity. People manage these challenges by blocking the view and natural sunlight with blinds or shades.

View Glass eliminates the need for shades or blinds. At last, people can control their own comfort without losing a connection to the outdoors.Balancing the need for natural light, while managing glare, is a difficult and constantly evolving challenge that changes through each day and from season to season. The ability to control tint on demand gives building occupants the unprecedented ability to eliminate glare in their work and living areas.

Thermal Comfort

View Glass adapts to occupants' needs by managing the amount of solar heat entering a space, keeping it at a comfortable temperature throughout the day. Even sitting next a window no longer needs to be an uncomfortable experience. View Glass helps create a comfortable, productive environment for building occupants.

Energy Consumption & Peak Load Savings

In the summer, heat from the sun comes through windows and heats up the interior. We manage this by conditioning heat away. View Glass tints to keep heat out of the building envelope so that it does not have to be conditioned away after the fact. During the winter View Glass clears, allowing more solar heat to be transmitted through than typical Low-E glass, reducing artificial heating requirements. This enables buildings to harvest natural solar heat in the winter without sacrificing heat and light management in the summer. View Glass reduces the peak load required to condition a building, thereby reducing the size of the HVAC system needed. Reducing the HVAC requirements also helps building energy managers avoid costly peak energy usage rates.

View Glass can change its tint from clear to dark on demand and provide unprecedented control over the amount of light and heat that enters a building. This dynamic control results in 25 percent reduction in HVAC energy consumption and 30 percent reduction in peak load. Additionally, because they also control glare, windows that use View Glass do not need blinds, shades or other window treatments, thus providing unobstructed views to the occupants.

Architectural Freedom

View Glass provides architects the freedom to use more glass without being constrained by current glass code requirements. Current codes, driven by occupant comfort or HVAC energy consumption considerations, are based on the limitations of static Low-E glass. View Glass solves this limitation. View Glass significantly contributes to green building certification such as Green Building Council's LEED.

Dynamic Technology

The dynamic optical properties of View Glass come from an electrically active solid-state coating applied directly to surface #2 of a View Glass unit. The electrochromic coating absorbs light and heat in the tinted state, while allowing more light and heat to pass through in the clear state, as shown in the illustrations. The amounts of visible light transmitted and solar heat allowed through (solar heat gain coefficient or SHGC) can be varied to different states between clear and fully tinted.

Dynamic Technology

View Glass is fabricated with materials that meet or exceed industry standards, specifications, and test methods. The solid-state electrochromic coating is extremely durable and will not degrade or change over the life of the window. View Glass is fully compliant with the ASTM E2141-06 industry standard and has been independently tested by the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL).

Control at Your Fingertips

You can adjust tint levels anytime with a simple wall switch or mobile device app. View Glass can also be integrated with your home automation system.
